PHMI Clinical Guidelines: Adults with Preventive Care Needs

February 27, 2026

The PHMI Clinical Guidelines: Adults With Preventive Care Needs compile evidence-based recommendations and PHMI measure guidance for Breast Cancer Screening, Cervical Cancer Screening, and Colorectal Cancer Screening. Drawing from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) and the American College of Radiology/Society of Breast Imaging, this resource summarizes current screening recommendations for adults based on age, risk factors, screening modality, and recommended screening intervals.

The guidelines include recommendations for mammography, cervical cytology (Pap testing), high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) testing and co-testing, self-collected HPV testing, fecal immunochemical testing (FIT), stool DNA-FIT testing, CT colonography, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy.

They also address screening considerations for high-risk populations, transgender individuals, and adults with prior hysterectomy to support appropriate preventive cancer screening.
