The PHMI Clinical Guidelines: Pregnant People compile evidence-based recommendations and PHMI measure guidance for Timeliness of Prenatal Care, Postpartum Care, and Perinatal Depression Screening and Follow-Up. Drawing from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA HEDIS®), American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and Kaiser Permanente National Guideline Program, this resource summarizes current recommendations for prenatal care, postpartum care, and maternal mental health screening.
The guidelines address initiation of prenatal care during the first trimester, comprehensive postpartum care beginning within the first three weeks after delivery and concluding with a comprehensive postpartum visit no later than 12 weeks after birth, and screening and follow-up for prenatal and postpartum depression.
They also summarize recommended postpartum assessments, including physical recovery, blood pressure, breastfeeding, pelvic and abdominal evaluation, diabetes screening when indicated, mental health, substance use, family planning, healthy weight, physical activity, and other components of comprehensive maternal care.
